How to do it
- Set the bar on your upper traps as for a squat, with your elbows down and in so it stays tight.
- Stand with your feet hip width or a little wider, toes slightly out, knees soft.
- Push your hips back and lean forward until your chest is nearly parallel to the floor, back flat.
- Drive your hips forward to stand tall.
Key cues
- Hips back, back flat
- Soft knees, most of the move at the hips
- Shins close to vertical
- Squeeze your glutes at the top
Common mistakes
- Rounding the spine instead of hinging at the hips
- Letting the bar roll forward on your back
- Bending the knees too much so it becomes a squat
- Going heavier than you can hinge with control
